Real-World Evidence for Decisions in Diabetes

REDDIE Webinar Series Showcases Advances in Real-World Data and Emulated Trials

Over the past month, the REDDIE project brought together experts from across Europe to explore the power of real-world data (RWD). As part of this effort, we organised two webinars covering our latest advancements in using real-world data (RWD) for clinical research and emulated trial design. The events brought together over 60 participants from healthcare, regulation, academic, and data science backgrounds.

Exploring Methodological Innovation

The first webinar, Challenges and Opportunities with the Estimands and the Estimation in Real and Emulated Trials, took place on 6 May 2025 and focused on the statistical underpinnings of RWD-based analysis.

Key highlights included:
Real-World Data Analysis in REDDIE presented by Prof. Christian Torp-Pedersen
Targeted Maximum Likelihood Estimation (TMLE) in emulated trials, introduced by Prof. Thomas Alexander Gerds

This session tackled core methodological challenges and introduced emerging estimation strategies that can improve the validity and applicability of real-world studies.

Introducing the REDDIE RWD Dashboard

The second webinar, From Data to Discovery: Introducing the REDDIE RWD Dashboard, held on 19 May 2025, provided an exclusive first look at the REDDIE project’s new interactive tool for exploring RWD sources and metadata related to diabetes.

The session featured:
Dashboard Presentation by Prof. Pratik Choudhary and Jonah Thomas
Analysis of 4 European Diabetes Registries by Dr Stefanie Lanzinger

Participants learned about the functionalities of the RWD Dashboard and the upcoming registry description paper that will offer deeper insights into data availability and harmonisation across European countries.

Shaping the Future of Clinical Research

These two webinars are just a part of the ongoing REDDIE webinar series that served as a platform for knowledge exchange and community building, reinforcing our mission to support the responsible, methodologically sound use of real-world data in health research. Stay tuned for upcoming REDDIE webinars in autumn.

We thank all speakers, moderators, and attendees for participating. If you missed the live sessions or wish to revisit the discussions, both recordings are now available on the REDDIE YouTube channel.
